About Brownsville

ABOUT BROWNSVILLE
Brownsville, a tiny town of 1500, is located about 4 miles east of Interstate-5, on the very edge of Oregon's Willamette Valley, between farm lands and the foothills. Originally in the homeland of the Kalapuya people, Brownsville was settled by Euro-Americans beginning in 1843 during the early Oregon Trail migrations, making it one of the oldest towns in the state.

Early industries included the Brownsville Woolen Mills, a sash and door company, farming, and raising livestock. Today, important crops are turf and forage grass seed. Wonderful barns and historic homes are abundant in town and within an easy drive. The Linn County Historical Museum, virtually next-door to The Nest, displays the rich and interesting prehistory and history of our area. Brownsville, today, is a sleepy, little town that prides itself on community spirit, slow food, and friendly folks. Many residents like its central location in the I-5 corridor with an easy commute to major Willamette Valley urban areas.
